About Us

There are few things more influential in shaping a persons life than international travel, severe illness or injury and adventure activities where boundaries are shattered. Combine all these experiences with honest, open relationships and professional facilitation and there is unlimited potential to change lives. Survive and Thrive Adventures Inc. is dedicated to combining adventure activities, travel and in depth reflection and exploration of life altering illness or injury into one unique life changing experience. One thing that is very apparent in throughout the Canadian cancer community is the complete lack of research, programs and support groups for young adults with cancer even thought there is millions of dollars raised for cancer initiatives every year. In fact out of $76-million of newly funded research in 2006 there was only 1 grant for $61,061 that focused on young adult cancer. Also, only four cancer centers in all of Canada had support groups for young adults which met on a monthly basis. YA's with cancer have to deal with a number of issues specific to their age group, such as fertility, financial and job insecurity, and dating/relationships, which are often not addressed at cancer support groups and organizations dedicated to older adults and children. This lack of resources for young adults is one of the major reasons for the formation of Survive & Thrive Adventures Inc.(Information taken from the Cancer Advocacy Coalition of Canada: 2007 Report Card)

We believe that young adults have a lot to offer Canadian society and we want to give them the opportunities and abilities to unlock their potential despite the struggles they face on a daily basis. Remember both Terry Fox and Lance Armstrong were YA's when they were diagnosed and look at the impact they have had. We at Survive & Thrive Adventures Inc. want to help YA's explore their new normal and help them discover what they have to offer the cancer community and Canadian society in general.
