We are going to the GRAND CANYON! Spend 7 days traveling 188 river miles on a motorized raft through the majestic Grand Canyon, each day stopping to explore a new side canyon, Puebloan ruin, waterfall or aqua blue stream. Survive & Thrive Expeditions is partnering with Hatch River Expeditions to provide a special once in a lifetime trip for young adult cancer survivors. A part from exploring the unbelievable landscape this trip will focus on living better post-treatments as well as how to be an effective advocate for our young adult survivor peers. The trip will explore practical skills, such as guided meditation, building life mission statements and storytelling, as well as real life examples of survivors who have been able to turn their painful cancer experience into something that has inspired and changed lives. Matt Ferstler (www.singlejingles.org), Mike and Bonnie Lang (Directors of STE, www.wrongwaytohope.com, www.ebbflowstory.com) and a mystery presenter will be facilitating the evening discussions but the wisdom will come from the participants themselves.

This trip is open to any young adult cancer survivors diagnosed and currently between the ages of 18 and 39ish. The exact date of the 2012 Grand Canyon expedition is August 4th – 11th. The cost of the trip is $1500 and includes all food, equipment, guides and transportation to and from the Las Vegas airport (retail the trip costs about $2600!! Thanks for the killer deal Hatch!). However, do not want cost to be a barrier and can help you raise funds if you need to. Please contact us using the contact form on the website if you will need help with fundraising.

A survivor may bring one close supporter who has been with them throughout their cancer journey. Each participant is responsible for their travel to and from Las Vegas, NV. All the medical and information forms are available for download here. Enrollment is done on a first come, first serve basis, but due to the remoteness and physicality of the expedition, medical forms will be thoroughly reviewed and a doctors consent must be given (if you are not 5 years clear or have late effects from treatments) before the survivor is accepted to come on the trip. Having said that, we believe most survivors are capable of much more then they may think they are and encourage everyone to apply… if you have the will, we will find the way!!
